Return to school - January 2022

4th Jan 2022

3rd January 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian

We would like to wish all of our families a very Happy New Year and we hope that you all managed to enjoy the Christmas break.

On our return to school, we already have quite a number of staff presenting with Covid. This will no doubt be a pattern over the weeks and months ahead and is going to impact on school life. It is our priority to keep classes in school as much as possible.

However, where there is no teacher to teach the class and no substitute teacher available, we may have to engage classes in remote learning, for a period of days. This is not an ideal situation but may be necessary. We want our families to be aware of the possibility of your child having to stay home, and the need to organise childcare and/or remote learning at a moment’s notice, if needed.

We will not be providing work-packs for home, as any period of remote learning will hopefully be short and nothing like the prolonged remote learning of last year. We would ask you over the next few days, to ensure that you can easily access Seesaw. Seesaw will be used for any communication between teacher and pupils. Pupils who complete work at home, due to a Covid related absence, will not be marked absent.

On your child’s return to school, please do the following:
• Carry out a Lateral Flow Test on your child on Wednesday morning- only allow your child to attend school if the test is negative. If it is positive, book a PCR and let the school know
• Ensure that your child is aware of social distancing and proper handwashing
• DO NOT send your child to school if they have any symptoms of Covid: temperature, sore throat, cough, change to sense of smell or taste or any level of unwellness
• If travelling by bus – WEAR A MASK

We look forward to seeing our pupils on Wednesday. It will be a challenging term ahead but when school and home work closely together we will get through it – hopefully without too much disruption.
Many thanks for your support and continued cooperation.

Yours sincerely

Orla O’Dowd
