Letter from the Principal

20th Jun 2023

20th June 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

A few important pieces of information as we come to our final few days of this school year.

Our Primary/Rang 7 pupils leave us this Friday 23rd June to begin their new adventure in their post primary education.  We have a leavers Mass tomorrow, Wednesday 21st at 10am in St Paul’s Church to celebrate their time with us and we hope you, their parents, can join us, both at the mass and afterwards for refreshments in the school assembly hall.

The Primary/Rang 7 pupils have their Leavers’ Disco, jointly run by our Student Council and Friends of St. Francis on Wednesday (tomorrow) night.  The disco runs from 7-9 and pupils must be collected by an adult.

A huge thank you to the Nurture team, especially Mrs McCafferty, and the Friends of St Francis, especially Lori Molloy, for their roles in bringing the hugely successful Nurture Week to St Francis’.  Even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits on Friday night.  The children had a complete blast all week and it was a great event to mark the end of the school year.

Reports and moving on…

The children will be taking their end of year reports home this Friday. Our school takes great pride in supporting our children and building their resilience where we can.  Our nurturing activities, commitment to counselling services, forest schooling and sporting and musical/choral opportunities all attest to this.

Within this backdrop, and with much thought and planning, we are mixing the year groups as they move on through St. Francis’ PS.  Your child’s new teacher will be listed on their report.  The children will have an opportunity next week to meet their new teacher, visit their new class and meet their classmates.  We will support the children with this transition.

We are confident that with continued support from the entire St. Francis’ team, we will incrementally develop their resilience to change, which will hold them in good stead when they move on to post-primary.  It will also widen their knowledge of their year group colleagues and develop a wider and diverse range of friendship groupings over the years in our school.

Thank you for your support over the year.

We look forward together to a great 2023-24 school year.
